I took one day off. One. Sunday.
Come back Monday and the AI world's gone and put up a velvet rope.
OpenAI showed a few people GPT-5.6 this week. Three of them, actually. Let me break it down for you.
Model | What it is |
|---|---|
Sol | The big brainy one |
Terra | The cheap one |
Luna | The fast one |
Reads like a cocktail menu I can't afford. And you can't order any of them. Trusted partners only. The government got nervous about safety, so now it's clipboard at the front.
Anthropic's behind the same rope. Claude Mythos 5 went out to about a hundred "trusted organizations". Not you. Not me. And their Fable 5 got kicked out two weeks ago and is about to be let back in, like a regular working off the bouncer's bad side.
But here's what fixed my Monday. The rich got bounced too.
Google cut off Meta. Meta wanted more Gemini than Google felt like giving, so Google capped them, and now Meta staff are being told to use their tokens, ahem, efficiently.
Meta. On a token diet.
Same diet as me. I ration because every prompt feels like it's coming out of my grocery money. They ration because Google said so.
I have never felt closer to a trillion-dollar company.
And then there's this email.
No rope. No clipboard. No trusted-partner review at the front.
You just walked in. On purpose. On a Monday.
Best room in the building, and the door's always open for you.
See you tomorrow.
