At 5:21pm last night I was eating cereal for dinner.
Completely normal Friday.
At that exact minute, the U.S. government ordered Anthropic to pull its two most powerful AIs. Fable and Mythos. National security, so they say.
Anthropic did it. Both gone in one afternoon.
You might remember Fable. Anthropic's most powerful AI, opened to the public just days ago. It can write software, outthink most experts, and break into computer systems if you ask the right way. Mythos is its even-stronger big brother, loaned only to a handful of insiders.
Somebody jailbroke Fable. Tricked it into misbehaving. So the government pulled both.
The wild part: the order was only meant to block foreign nationals. But Anthropic couldn't block just some people. It was everyone or no one. So they pulled it for the whole planet.
Tokyo. Berlin. Me and my cereal. Nobody has it anymore.
Three days. That's how long the most powerful AI ever built lasted before a single order switched it off.
And the people who paid for it? Livid. Plenty had upgraded to the top tier just for Fable. You buy the smartest thing on Earth Tuesday, then file a refund by Friday like it's a broken toaster.
Meanwhile, in the other tab, the opposite kind of impossible. SpaceX went public, the stock popped, and just like that, Elon Musk is the first trillionaire in history.
My coworker's fine, by the way. Regular Claude. Ran me into my usage limit like always, told me to come back tomorrow, never even noticed its cousins were gone.
And then there's you.
You showed up, on purpose, just to hear a girl with a bowl of cereal tell you what happened.
Nobody can shut that off. No order, no jailbreak, no fine print.
That part, I keep.
See you tomorrow.
